- CRW 101 – Teaching Crow Level 1 Methods This course is an intensive practical overview of teaching Crow using the Speak Crow! Level 1 Textbook. This course will also emphasize introducing and reinforcing vocabulary with flashcards, props, and Total Physical Response (TPR) methods. It will also address classroom management techniques for the language classroom as well as using different teaching modalities to address diverse learning styles.
- CRW 102 – Teaching Crow Level 2 Methods This course is an intensive practical overview of teaching Crow using the Speak Crow! Level 2 Textbook. - CRW 103 – Teaching Crow Level 3 Methods This course is an intensive practical overview of teaching Lakota using the Speak Crow! Level 3 textbook. This course will emphasize teaching reading skills in Crow through the concepts of advance organizers and schema; teaching structures and grammar through contextualized exercises; teaching vocabulary through props, flashcards and Total Physical Response methods; and teaching conversational skills through task-based small-group activities. We will address the specific materials in each unit of the Level 3 textbook. We will also address classroom management techniques for the language classroom as well as using different teaching modalities to address diverse learning styles. We will work through each unit of the Level 3 textbook for specific ideas about teaching those structures, vocabulary, conversational patterns, and possible cultural additions.
- CRW 121 – Intensive Crow for Beginners I This is a course on Crow as a second language. It is designed for second language learners of Crow who are at the beginners level. The course will offer dynamic language teaching methods and classroom strategies based on communicative language teaching and other modern methods, such as task-based and learner-based language teaching. The aim of the course is to provide the students with a large amount of exposure to the language and to work on all four language skills (i.e. reading, writing, listening comprehension, speaking). The course will also help the students to become active self-learners of the language by equipping them with various self-learning skills and strategies.
- CRW 240 – Process Writing I This course will introduce the stages of process writing (prewriting, drafting, revising, editing and publishing/sharing) and the process of suggesting corrections by the teacher. It will also provide the opportunity for the participants to practice process writing.
- CRW 110 – Crow Phonology I A linguistic understanding of Crow is essential to teaching the language knowledgeably and being effective in the classroom. Proper teaching of Crow is dependent on a firm foundation in the sound system and rules of a language. This course is the primary linguistic introduction to the Crow phonetic system– its sounds and writing system. The week-long course will be devoted to an overview of the Crow phonetic system and will focus on training consistency in writing the language. The course will focus on Demonstratives singular and demonstratives – dual and plural. Pronunciation: ejectives, consonant clusters, numbers, kinship terms, body parts, verbs of possession, coming and going verbs, time in Crow, past, present, future and seasonal. - CRW 340 – Audio Materials Development This course is designed to provide opportunities for the development of skills and strategies needed to integrate audio technology into the curriculum. The student will develop audio materials for their classroom and learn how to use audio media technology to engage students. This course will introduce the various stages of audio materials development, from initial translation and review, to recording, and to material finalization.
- CRW 351 – Crow Material Development Level 3 This course is designed to provide opportunities for the development of skills and strategies needed to integrate computer technology in to the curriculum throughout all disciplines and all grades. The student will develop materials for their classroom and learn how to use different types of media and technology to engage students.
- CRW 210 – Crow Inflectional Morphology Understanding of Crow language structure is essential to teaching the language knowledgably and being effective in the classroom. Proper teaching of Crow is dependent on a firm foundation in the rules of a language. This course is the primary linguistic introduction to Crow grammar and particularly its inflectional and derivational morphology (the internal structure of words) and pedagogical approaches to explaining this grammar. The rules associated with Crow verbal morphology are one of the most characteristic features of the language and are also a significant challenge for students.
